ABOUT US ...

Millers is the brainchild of Elaine Townend who, after after spending her formative years on a smallholding in the East Riding, realised her dream to open a Tea Room at Skidby Mill in the summer of 2002. As business developed Millers moved to bigger and better premises and in December 2008 Elaine finally got back to her roots by adding a Farm Shop, to the already hugely popular Tea Rooms, selling locally-sourced and produced food to compliment her already successsful home made cakes, pies, patés and quiches.

Millers Tea Room and Farm Shop, at Raywell Country Lodge Park, Riplingham Lane, Raywell is the third tea room but the first time Elaine has ventured into selling the local produce that has made her cafés such huge success. Opening just before Christmas 2008, within weeks it was fully-booked by the loyal customers she refers to as “friends”.

Elaine was 10 years old when her family moved to a small holding. Her Mum put her to work selling eggs, lettuces, tomatoes and chickens to passers-by. Elaine remembers it like being in 'The Good Life' but it got into her blood and she believes it's when her passion for good food started. She cooked with her mum and when she was 11, she won the Mackman’s Trophy for cooking at the Hull Show.

When Elaine saw a café available at Skidby she thought " why not go for it?". She knew what people wanted and what she wanted to do and the first ever Millers Tea Room was born. After a couple of years, Millers had proved so popular that they needed to move somewhere bigger and, after a short stint in Little Weighton, which proved to be not big enough, the opportunity for Raywell came up.

Elaine's philosophy is that 'people like to come to places that feel like home' and that's what Millers delivers. A unique homely experience, with great home made food and staff who really care about the business.

The Farm Shop stocks a vast array of local produce and home baked goods, along with gifts and hampers. The only produce to come from outside Yorkshire and Lincolnshire are the olives, bought from a Greek supplier. The Tea Room and Farm Shop is licensed to sell alcohol – and that includes beer from nearby Wold Top Brewery, Hunmanby.

People want good service and good food and that is what Millers can offer. A lot of what is stocked is what people want to buy. So, they don’t have to go to the supermarket and struggle against the other trolleys and shoppers. Locals from nearby Cottingham, Raywell and Little Weighton have a super local shop and a place to relax afterwards.

Everyone receives a friendly welcome at Millers, so come along and say 'Hello!'
